Location & Attractions
SKI Magazine readers in 2006 recognized Vail Mountain as the No. 1 ski resort in North America for the 14th time since the survey began in 1988. It's no wonder. Featuring four terrain parks, seven bowls and 5,289 acres of distinctly different terrain, Vail is the largest single-mountain Colorado ski resort. On no other mountain will you feel so much space between you and the frantic world below - or so intimately close to nature.
Vail Valley is the ultimate winter playground, attracting visitors from around the world to outdoor adventure that, in addition to skiing and snowboarding, includes ice skating, tubing, sledding and snowmobiling.
And, while its champagne powder is legendary, Vail offers exciting adventure all year long. Warmer months give way to spring wildflowers and crystalline streams for fishing or whitewater rafting. In the summer, mild temperatures and clear blue skies present ideal conditions for horseback riding, hiking, biking and championship golfing. And in the fall, spectacular golden aspen leaves draw visitors just for the viewing.
Vail is also an exceptional Colorado family resort - offering a mountain of activities for young adventurers. One of the most exciting is Adventure Ridge at Eagle's Nest on Vail Mountain. This diverse playground, accessible only by gondola and open day and night for all ages, offers tubing, ski biking, kids' snowmobiling, ice skating, and snowshoe hikes. And in the summer, activities include laser tag, disc golf, volleyball and more.
But there's more to Vail than outdoor adventure. The Bavarian-style village of Vail also packs year-round fun and excitement along its winding cobblestone streets. In addition to festivals and events, Vail Village features distinctive boutiques, fine restaurants, charming cafes and art galleries.
While you're here, stop by the Ski Museum in the Transportation Center. You'll learn about Vail's history and the people who created this celebrated alpine village and ski resort. And you'll soon understand why this beautiful valley, surrounded by the White River National Forest, steals the hearts of everyone who visits.
Making Vail Even Better
Vail Resorts is investing more than $1 billion in Vail over the next few years to make sure your guest experience is better than ever. As part of this effort, LionsHead is undergoing a transformation that will include Arrabelle at Vail Square - a European-inspired plaza that will feature full-service skier services such as lift ticket sales, equipment rentals, ski storage, lockers, and a ski and snowboard school. Arrabelle will also entice visitors with fabulous dining, shopping, a winter ice-skating plaza and entertainment venues.
Vail Resorts is also investing another $1 billion in a new resort on 9.5 acres in West Lionshead. Called Ever Vail, this "green" resort will be built using the latest in environmentally friendly building techniques - and will include a retail promenade with shops and restaurants.
